Rockets Swept by Cleveland State in Final Tournament Matchup

TOLEDO, OH -  The Toledo volleyball team was unable to win its final match of the Blue/Gold Invitational on Saturday, losing in straight sets (25-11, 16-24, 25-14) to Cleveland State. The Rockets were held to a .077 attack percentage in the contest, while the Vikings posted a powerful mark of .350.

UT was led on the offensive end by sophomore OH Saige Thomas with nine kills, followed by freshman RSH/S Carly Townsend (six kills) and sophomore OH Annie Beasley (five kills).

Senior DS Maddie Strall paced the defense recording 12 digs and freshman libero Maurissa Leonard added eight. Sophomore MB Rachel Vidourek tallied a team-high three blocks.

Leonard and Vidourek were selected to the all-tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.

The Vikings' impressive attacking efforts were led by tournament MVP Christina Toth who posted an outstanding .600 ATK% (15-0-25), all-tournament selection Grace Kauth who held a .303 ATK % (14-4-33), and Alexis Middlebrooks with a .409 (13-4-22).

Cleveland State led the entire first set as the Rockets were unable to match their intensity. The Vikings were hitting .412 as a team and held UT to a .065 mark.

Toledo stepped up its aggression and entered the second set as a completely different team. The set was tight as the Rockets and Vikings were tied on 18 different occasions and lead changed hands eight times. UT was up 24-23 but could not capitalize when it counted. CSU managed to capture a 26-24 victory.

The final set was a mirror image of the first. Cleveland State won 25-14 and recorded an exceptional .552 ATK% as a team.

Toledo begins its conference schedule on Thursday, Sept. 24 when it takes on Ball State at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena. The Rockets then travel to Buffalo on Saturday, Sept. 26 for a 7:30 p.m. match against the Bulls.
