TOLEDO, OH – Sophomore Stjepan Sisko has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

It is the first time in program history a Toledo player was named MAC Player of the Year. Sisko also earned First-Team All-MAC status for the second-consecutive season.

"Winning player of the year was one of my goals for the season and winning it means I was on my track with my goals," Sisko said. "It's really satisfying to win it after facing so many ups and downs, individually and with team, through the season."

A native of Kastel Stari, Croatia, Sisko finished the season with a 19-3 record at the No. 1 singles spot, as well as a 4-1 mark in conference play.

Sisko produced winning streaks of both 10 and six straight matches during the 2015 season.

Sisko also recorded the most doubles wins for the Midnight Blue & Gold, with 12 victories while teamed up with both junior Garrett Cona and freshman Omar Espinosa.

"Nobody puts so much pressure on himself to improve and win as Stjepan," head coach Al Wermer said. "He deserves this award. I know it will only motivate him more for rest of his career, and he's very excited about taking that next step and becoming a team leader."

Sisko returns to the Rockets next season, and will look to create some stability to a squad returning just three players from 2014-15.
