TEMPE, AZ - The Toledo softball team dropped its final game of the Louisville Slugger Invitational hosted by Arizona State on Sunday, in a wild 16-11 win by Binghamton.
The loss drops the Rockets to 4-10 on the season.
Toledo opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs on an RBI double by junior OF Jessica Lemieux and a single to sophomore OF Celeste Fidge.
Fidge and Lemieux each tallied three hits in the game. Lemieux went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored, while Fidge went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Including Fidge and Lemieux, six Rockets recorded multi-hit games against the Bearcats. Freshman OF Ashley Rausch went 2-for-5 with two runs, sophomore UT Chandler Rice went 2-for-3 with a run, freshman C Ashley Maynard went 2-for-3 with her first collegiate home run and two total RBI, and senior OF Alyssa Smith rounded out the multi-hit games by going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Toledo outhit the Bearcats 16-14, its most hits in a game this season, and left seven runners on base.
After taking a 2-0 lead after the first inning, the Rockets added two more runs in each of the second and third innings, taking a 6-3 lead into the fifth inning.
Two more runs in the fifth inning off a double by senior IF Allissa Turkovich gave Toledo a commanding 8-3 lead.
Binghamton tied the game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Rockets fought back and scored three runs to take a 11-8 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. An eight-run offensive outburst from Binghamton gave the Bearcats the win, as Toledo was unable to score in the final inning.
The Rockets continue their tournament schedule next weekend with six games at the USF Under Armour Invitational from Friday-Wednesday, March 6-11.
