Rockets to Begin Play at Great Alaska Shootout on Wednesday

11/24/2015 2:15:00 AM

QUICK HITTERS
•  Toledo (2-1) looks to bounce back from its first setback of the season when it meets San Jose State (1-2) in the opening round of the Great Alaska Shootout on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The Rockets' contest against the Spartans will tip off at 11:30 p.m. EST and be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
•  The winner of Wednesday's UT-SJSU matchup will play either Loyola (IL) (3-1) or San  Diego (0-3) in the tournament's semifinals on Friday, Nov. 27 at 9:30 p.m. EST. The loser will face the Ramblers or Torreros in the consolation bracket on Friday at 4:00 p.m. EST.
•  Toledo let an 18-point first-half lead slip away in last Saturday's 69-62 defeat at Loyola. Senior center Nathan Boothe poured in a career-high 29 points to go along with 11 boards, but that wasn't enough to offset junior guard Milton Doyle's red-hot shooting. Doyle hit 8-of-9 shots, including all six he took from three-point range, en route to a 25-point performance.
•  Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his sixth season at UT's helm and has orchestrated a dramatic turnaround since his arrival in 2010. He possesses an 87-79 record on the Rocket bench, including an 83-51 (.619) win-loss ledger over the last five years.
•  Kowalczyk has guided Toledo to a share of the 2013-14 Mid-American Conference regular season title in addition to a piece of the 2012-13 MAC West Division title during his tenure.
•  Boothe, who is one of four Rockets scoring in double figures, leads UT and ranks second in the MAC with 23.3 ppg. Joining Boothe in double figures are junior guard Jonathan Williams (16.7 ppg.), sophomore guard Stuckey Mosley (12.3 ppg) and freshman guard Jaelan Sanford (11.0 ppg).
•  Boothe was honored on Monday with the YP.om MAC West Division Player of the Week honors, the first time in his career he has received the award. The Gurnee, IL native dominated two games last week, averaging 27.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He also shot 60.0 percent (24-of-40) from the field, 40.0 percent (2-of-5) from three-point range and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from the free-throw line.
•  SJSU is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2014-15 campaign during which it posted a 2-28 win-loss mark. The Spartans are 1-2 this season with a 64-61 win over Montana sandwiched by losses to Idaho (74-54) and Montana State (81-69).
•   Senior guard Princeton Onwas is one of three players scoring in double figures for San Jose State with a team-high 12.3 ppg.
