Toledo Drops 3-1 Decision to Western Michigan

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo fell by a 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 19-25, 18-25) margin to Western Michigan (6-12, 2-1 MAC) in Savage Arena on Friday night. UT's record is now 3-13 (0-3 MAC). Tonight's match marked the third straight contest the Rockets have won at least the first set before losing.

Sophomore MB Rachel Vidourek enjoyed a strong night after missing last week's Buffalo game to an injury. Vidourek led UT's attack and posted a .308 attack percentage (12-4-26). She also notched a team-high five blocks, tying with sophomore OH Annie Beasley.

Freshman MB Gracey Tuifua followed right behind Vidourek notching 11 terminations, and freshman OH/S Carly Townsend and sophomore OH Saige Thomas both added six kills. Townsend tallied a team-high 23 assists, while sophomore DS Brianna Foster tallied 12.

Freshman libero Maurissa Leonard tied her personal best with a team-high 32 digs. Leonard was named last weeks MAC West Co-Defensive Player of the Week as well as PrepVolleyball.com's National Co-Libero of the Week. Freshman DS Andrea Stephenson added 14 digs in the backcourt.

The Rockets opened the first set aggressively and kept up their intensity to win the set 25-13. Toledo posted a .400 ATK%, only making two attack errors, and held the Broncos to a .053 mark. Vidourek posted a .700 ATK% with seven kills.

Toledo opened set two with five straight points but WMU soon answered with a six-point run of its own. UT fell further behind but then managed to take a 20-19 lead. The Rockets couldn't hold off the Broncos though as they posted 25-21 win.

Western Michigan continued its momentum into the third set and jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Toledo was unable to match the Broncos' intensity and fell 25-19.

Toledo was unable to gain any momentum in the fourth set and dropped a 25-18 decision to lose the match.
