BOWLING GREEN, OH - The Toledo cross country teams won the Mel Brodt Invitational in Bowling Green on Friday evening. The men's team placed five runners in the top 10 in the 8,000-meter race while the women's team swept the first seven places in the 5,000-meter race.
On the men's side, senior Adam Smercina paced the Rockets with a third-place finish and a time of 26:33.93. Junior Thomas Gibbons placed sixth (26:50.08) while sophomore Matt Leis placed seventh (26:59.14) and freshman Luis Guardiola placed eighth (26:59.14) just before teammate Adam Bess (27:00.76).
The women's team posted a perfect score as a team and was paced by senior Mackenzie Chojnacky who placed first with a time of 17:24.03. Senior Liz Weiler followed with a time of 17:35.76 while sophomore Janelle Noe rounded out the top three with a 17:44.77 finish.
Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on Oct. 3 at the Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, IN.
