Rockets Defeat No. 58 Buffalo 5-2 In MAC Opener

BUFFALO, NY - The Toledo men's tennis team opened Mid-American Conference play on Sunday, defeating No. 58 Buffalo 5-2.

"Our guys were well prepared and this match showed that all their work and challenges have helped them improve,” head coach Al Wermer said. “Conference matches are special team experiences and the guys recognize the opportunity.”

The Rockets won the doubles point by taking two of three matches.

Sophomore Garrett Cona and freshman Stjepan Sisko took home the win in No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 victory, while juniors Mark Singnil and Nicky Wong teamed up to post an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 doubles spot.

In singles, Sisko won the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 2 singles spot. Sisko is now 12-8 on the season, winning eight of his last 10 matches with a three-match win streak.

Singnil improved to 14-5 this year, with a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the top singles spot. Wong and sophomore Ryan Jorgensen recorded the final two victories in singles play for the Rockets, winning in No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

The Midnight Blue & Gold will hold its second MAC match when they travel to Muncie, IN to take on Ball State on Sunday, March 30. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
