1/19/2014 4:17:00 AM

ANN ARBOR, MI - The Toledo men's tennis team fell to No. 26 Michigan 6-1 on Saturday, Jan. 18 in its first of three away weekend matches.

Junior Mark Singnil (Samutsakorn, Thailand) earned a hard fought 6-5, 6-5 victory in the No. 2 slot for the Rockets, defeating Michigan's Justin Rossi. It was the only point on the day for UT.

“We got better in some spots today compared to last week, but we struggled in doubles,” head coach Al Wermer said. “We'll take this experience and keep focusing on getting better day by day.”

The Rockets did, however, play their competition tough. Junior Roberto Meza (Antofagasta, Chile) played to a 6-2, 6-4 loss in No. 4 singles, while sophomore Nicky Wong (Mansfield, OH) fell to UM's Alex Petrone 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 slot.

In No. 1 singles, freshman Stjepan Sisko (Kastel Stari, Croatia) was defeated by Vlad Stefan 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, Singnil and Sisko teamed up to take Michigan's No. 1 doubles team to a 3-3 tie before the match was cut short

With the loss, Toledo's record drops to 0-2 on the season.

The Rockets will travel to South Bend, IN tomorrow to face No. 29 Notre Dame and West Lafayette, IN on Monday for a match against No. 69 Purdue.
