9/8/2012 7:10:00 PM

TOLEDO, OH - Illinois State stymied Toledo's attack for much of the match on Saturday afternoon as the Redbirds registered a 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 25-14) over the Rockets at the Rocket Classic. UT will close out tournament play this evening against Florida Gulf Coast at 7:30 p.m.

Senior OH Sondra Parys was the only Rocket to reach double figures in kills as she came off the bench to tally 12 terminations. Senior libero McCall Paynter and junior MB Dakota Harkins were UT's top defensive performers with 13 digs and three blocks, respectively.

UT was limited to a .086 team hitting mark as Illinois State garnered 12 blocks, including six apiece from junior MH LeighAnn Hranka and sophomore MH Emily Schneider. The Redbirds hit .212 as a team and were paced the duo of sophomore OH Stacey Niao and freshman OH Ashley Rosch with 14 kills each.

ISU also posted a 67-53 dig advantage over the Rockets with senior libero Jenny Menendez leading four players in double figures with 16 defensive saves.

Toledo's best offensive showing came in the second set when it posted a .243 hitting mark to post a 25-21 win. Unfortunately for the Rockets, ISU dominated the third and fourth set with convincing 25-15 and 25-14 victories.

Illinois State (5-4) will look to capture the Rocket Classic title last this afternoon when it battles Memphis (2-7) at 5:00 p.m.
