10/21/2012 2:49:00 AM

BOWLING GREEN, OH - Toledo's upset bid of Mid-American Conference East Division co-leader Bowling Green (14-8, 9-1 MAC) came up short as the Falcons registered a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 25-10) victory over the Rockets (8-15, 2-8 MAC).

Junior OH Lauren Rafdal paced UT's attack with 12 kills with junior OH Jordan Kielty also in double figures with 11 terminations.

Junior MB Dakota Harkins led UT with five blocks and also tallied seven kills and a .300 hitting mark. Also excelling defensively in the back row were Kielty and Rafdal, who each registered double-doubles with 10 digs apiece.

Junior OH Paige Penrod topped the Falcons with 17 kills with junior RSH Danielle Tonyan and junior OH Lindsay Butterfield each collecting 11 kills.

Neither squad held more than a three-point advantage until three straight Falcon points put the Rockets down 22-18. UT rallied though to even the score at 23-23 with a 5-1 spurt thanks to two Rafdal kills and one each from Kielty and junior RSH Becca Reidy. Kielty then answered junior S Laura Avila's kill for a 24-24 game, but a Penrod kill and block (along with junior MB Kaitlyn Skinner) gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Toledo limited the Falcons to a -.034 in the second set and took control from the outset by surging to a 6-1 advantage. UT held a comfortable advantage until BGSU cllmbed to within 21-20 to force a Rocket timeout.. Junior S Adria Pryor and Harkins combined for a block for the next point and saw the Falcons register three straight attack errors to even the match at 1-1.

In Set 3, UT found itself staring at a 10-5 deficit after Bowling Green went on a 4-1 run. The Rockets did come within two points at 18-16 following a Kielty ace but couldn't come any closer.

After the fourth set was tied 3-3, Bowling Green used runs of nine and six consecutive points to end any hopes of a Rocket comeback.

Toledo is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 25 when it hosts Ball State. First serve from Savage Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.
