Rockets Drop Pair of Close Decisions to Bradley and Yale

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Toledo suffered a pair of late-inning setbacks on Friday at the RussMatt Invitational. The Rockets dropped a 7-4 decision in 10 innings to Bradley in their first game followed by a 3-2 defeat to Yale in their second contest.

Sophomore RHP Mike Hamann tied his career high with nine strikeouts against the Braves and allowed just four hits and three runs (two earned) in 7.1 innings. Alex Radon (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) in his inning of work.

Five different Rockets registered two hits apiece as part of UT's 12-hit attack which included just one extra-base hit. Junior Jeff Cola and freshman James Miglin each went 2-for-2 with senior Chris Dudics (2-for-5), junior Joe Corfman (2-for-4) and sophomore Wes White (2-for-5) also notching two singles.

Toledo took a 4-2 lead in the seventh but saw the Braves plate single runs in the eighth and ninth frames to send the game to extra innings.

In the Rockets' second game against Yale, junior LHP Kyle Shaw kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for the first seven innings before surrendering a pair in the bottom of the eighth. The southpaw scattered six hits and allowed two runs in 7.2 innings.

Toledo scored single runs in the first and ninth frames, with Yale plating its other run in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rockets will wrap up play at the RussMatt Invitational vs. UMass on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
