Rockets Downed by Eagles, 3-0

YPSILANTI, MI - Toledo fell to Eastern Michigan on Friday evening by a 3-0 margin (26-24, 25-7, 25-16) in a Mid-American Conference match at the Convocation Center.
EMU's record improved to 14-6 (2-3 MAC) with the victory, while Toledo dropped to 6-11 (1-4 MAC).

Junior MB Bethany Irwin topped the Rockets' offense in the match with nine kills and a .316 attack percentage. Junior OH Sondra Parys also contributed six kills, while tying Irwin for the team lead with two blocks.

Seniors Kassie Kadera and Amber DeWeerdt paced UT's defensive back-row efforts with 15 and 14 digs, respectively.

Junior OH Rachel Iaquaniello led EMU's attack with 14 kills and a .333 attack percentage (14-2-36).

The Rockets made a late rally at the end of the opening set, coming back from a 23-20 deficit to knot the score at 24-24. Kadera and sophomore MB Dakota Harkins registered kills to key the run, but a pair of Eagle blocks on the final two points gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles made quick work of UT in the second set, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the break. Eastern posted a .360 attack percentage and limited the Rockets to just three kills in the stanza.

Iaquaniello's .462 attack percentage (7-1-13) led the Eagles in the final frame of the match as EMU led from start to finish.

The Rockets will continue their weekend with a trip to Mt. Pleasant, MI tomorrow night to face Central Michigan at 7:00 p.m. The Chippewas suffered a 3-0 setback to MAC West leader Ball State this evening.
