Sven Burus (Slavonski Brod, Croatia) and Aleksandar Elezovic (Belgrade, Serbia) ran their fall doubles record to 9-0 as they captured the A Flight doubles title, while Terence Weigand (Winter Springs, FL) was victorious in the D Flight singles final to cap off the weekend at the IU Invitational.
"Aleks and Bear [Burus] just plowed through this event," said Toledo coach Al Wermer. "As coaches, I think we mostly have just needed to stay out of their way."
Burus and Elezovic continue to dominate the competition in A Flight doubles. Last weekend at the MSU Frank Beeman Invitational, the duo swept through the field and took the doubles title. The pair showed no signs of stopping the solid fall run as they cruised to the doubles championship on Sunday. For Weigand, this weekend was a chance to show off his improving singles game after a strong 3-1 effort last weekend.
"I am very happy with the way I have been playing and my recent singles results," said Weigand. "Winning my flight at the hoosier invitational was a great accomplishment and I'm going to continue working hard and to keep improving my game."
"It was awesome to see Terence with this breakthrough weekend," continued Wermer. "You can see his confidence exploding. Also great showing especially for Leo and Knot. Overall our team had terrific effort."
The Rockets will use the next week to continue training for the remainder of the fall season. Their next competition will be Oct. 1-2 as they host the Rocket Invitational on their home courts.
