For the second straight fall, senior men's tennis player Sven Burus (Slavonski Brod, Croatia) was a member of the A flight doubles championship team at the Michigan State Invitational. This year it was with the help of fellow senior Aleksandar Elezovic (Belgrade, Serbia) as the pair downed fellow Rockets Knot Likitkumchorn (Yala, Thailand) and Leo Sarria (Cali, Columbia) in the final.

"I'm very excited for defending this title," said Sven. "Aleks and I had great chemistry all the way through. All the hard work is paying off, and I'm looking forward to a successful season."

It was a hard fought final between the Rocket duos as the teams battled to an 8-6 final score, with Burus and Elezovic prevailing. To make it to the final, both Burus and Elezovic, and Likitkumchorn and Sarria were able to defeat members of the host Spartans in close contests. Burus and Elezovic defeated MSU's Norville and Richardson, 9-8, while Likitkumchorn and Sarria took down MSU's Stratton and Pfister, 8-5.

"Sven and Aleks played better and with more intensity each doubles match, and had awesome spirit in the final," said Head Coach Al Wermer. "Overall, we were really pleased with this start to our year. Our leaders' improving maturity will be a huge asset for this team."

The Rockets will continue their fall campaign as they travel to Bloomington, IN this coming weekend for the Indiana Invitational. First matches will begin Friday, Sept. 17.
