TOLEDO, OH - Forced indoors by
inclement weather, the Toledo men's tennis team wasted little time in
dispatching of MAC foe Chicago State, taking a 7-0 win Friday at Laurel Hill.
Making
the victory even more special, the Rockets played the match in front of honorary
captain Hans Walter, an 88-year old Holocaust survivor.
"We
were especially honored to have Mr. Walter join us as captain for our match
today," Al Wermer, head coach, said. "All of our players are very aware of
his incredible story, and it was amazing they got to meet him."
UT
had little trouble in recording the doubles victory, as Knot Likitkumchorn and
Leo Sarria took an 8-4 victory at the top. Terence Weigand and Bryant Dudzik
breezed to an 8-0 win, and the Cougars defaulted at third doubles.
Toledo's
singles players dropped a total of six games as each won in straight sets.
Aleksandar Elezovic took a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1, and Sven Burus earned a
6-1, 6-2 decision at second singles. Leo Sarria scored a 6-1, 6-0 win, while both
Gursher Harika and Bryant Dudzik shut out their opponents in winning by
identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
With
the victory, UT improved to 12-13 on the season and evened its MAC record to
2-2. The Rockets close their regular season against Western Michigan on Sunday,
April 25 at the UT Varsity Courts.
