BOWLING GREEN, OH - Toledo's softball team stranded seven runners on base as the Rockets dropped a 3-1 decision at Bowling Green's Meserve Field on Saturday.
With the setback, UT fell to 7-25 (1-4 MAC), while BGSU improved to 7-12 (3-2 MAC). The two teams will match up again at 1 p.m. Sunday in Bowling Green.
Toledo had an early scoring opportunity as the Rockets put two runners on with two out in the first on a single by Erinn Wright into center and a walk by Jillian Spink, but could not score.
BG tacked a run on in the first on an RBI single by Paige Berger, which came after a defensive miscue allowed Rachel Proehl to advance to third on a sac bunt. The Falcons then scored an unearned run in the second on a throwing error after a stolen base to make it 2-0 through two.
UT's lone tally came in the third. Brooke Gates laced an RBI double into right-center that chased in Kate Ricchio, who walked to lead off the inning. After a popout, Spink walked, but Lacey LeVier lined into a double play at short to end the inning.
The Falcons scored a run in their half of the fourth with an RBI double to straightaway center to make it 3-1. UT tried to answer with two outs in the fifth, though, as Lindsey Tobias reached on a passed ball and Spink walked, but both were stranded.
BG threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with one on, but Hannah Rockhold worked out of trouble by inducing a popout and finishing the frame with a strikeout.
Rockhold suffered the loss, allowing just two earned runs while striking out five. Gates, Wright and Kattie Palmer accounted for UT's three hits, while Spink walked three times.
