OXFORD, OH - Toledo's softball team was outhit 12-5, and the Rockets lost a 6-2 decision to Robert Morris Friday at the Miami Invitational.
The Rockets (4-17) scored a single run in the first and seventh innings but could not generate any offense in the middle innings in dropping their second straight game.
Sophomore Brooke Gates put Toledo on the board in the first as she doubled, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. The Rockets had three hits in the first as sophomore Jillian Spink and senior Mica Sanchez had two-out singles, but UT could not push across another run.
Toledo would pick up just one more hit in innings two through six, and though Sanchez ended the cold spell with a home run in the seventh, it was not enough for the win.
Gates started on the mound and took the loss. Junior Whitney Young worked four innings of relief and allowed four hits and two runs.
UT takes on Canisius at 10 a.m. and Robert Morris at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
