TOLEDO, OH - Eastern Michigan's veteran trio of junior F Brandon Bowdry, senior F Justin Dobbins and senior G Carlos Medlock were too much for Toledo to contend with on Wednesday evening in Savage Arena as the Rockets came up on the short end of a 58-42 setback.
Bowdry led the way for Eagles with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds, while Medlock and Dobbins contributed 11 and nine points, respectively.
Sophomore C Ian Salter tied his career high with 10 points to pace the Rocket attack, while junior F Justin Anyijong tallied nine points and a game-high six rebounds. Anyijong played just 19 minutes after picking up two fouls early in the first half for a second-straight contest.
"Once Justin got into foul trouble, Eastern took Jake (Barnett) away from us as an offensive option," Toledo Head Coach Gene Cross said. "Eastern Michigan did a very good job of defending us and making us uncomfortable with their physical play. They came out and played with a sense of purpose and took us out of the game right away"
The Eagles (14-12, 6-7 MAC) led from the outset and utilized a stifling defensive effort in the first half en route to a 31-12 halftime advantage. The visitors began the contest with a 12-2 spurt and never looked back. EMU held the Rockets (3-24, 0-13 MAC) without a field goal for the final six minutes of the half and finished the stanza with a 10-2 run.
Toledo is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 20 when it travels to Cleveland, OH to face Cleveland State as part of the ESPNU BracketBusters event. Tip-off time for the contest is 6:00 p.m.
