TOLEDO, OH - Toledo dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 27-25) decision to Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon in Savage Arena. The Rockets' record now is 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the MAC, while the Chippewas improved to 7-9 and 1-3 in conference play.
Junior OH Amber DeWeerdt topped UT offensively with 13 terminations and was the only Rocket to reach double figures in kills. Senior libero Katie Westerfeld was Toledo's defensive leader with 17 digs.
Lindsey Dulude tallied a match-high 15 kills for CMU with Lauren Krupsky and Kaitlyn Schultz also in double digits with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Central Michigan took control of the first set early jumping out to a 12-4 advantage. The closest UT was able to come the rest of the way was five points as the Chippewas held a .316-.167 advantage in attack percentage. Dulude topped CMU's offense with seven kills, while DeWeerdt paced the Rockets with terminations.
The second set saw the visitors again surge to a sizable advantage as UT was faced with an 8-3 deficit. Toledo was able to rally late by scoring three straight points to come within 24-22, but Krupsky ended any hopes of a Rocket comeback with her team-best fifth kill of the set. Reidy and DeWeerdt were UT's offensive leaders with four kills apiece.
The Rockets had a golden opportunity to extend the match, but the Chippewas rallied from a 21-16 deficit by scoring seven straight points. CMU then took a 24-22 lead, but Toledo was able to fight off three match points until Katie Schuette's kill ended the match.
UT returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 7 when it hosts Ball State at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.
