Falcons Get Two-Hit Shutout over Rockets

4/27/2008 4:00:00 AM

Toledo, OH ? The Toledo softball team honored its four seniors before UT took on the Falcons on Sunday at Scott Park. Bowling Green came away with the seventh inning run to win the game 1-0.

BGSU's Susan Sontag had the game-winning hit for the Falcons as she doubled up the middle to score Dawnjene DeLong from second base.

Both teams were held hit-less until the third inning when DeLong doubled but BG was unable to bring her around. Toledo also had its first hit in the third when sophomore Mica Sanchez doubled down the leftfield line.

Bowling Green added another hit in the fourth and fifth innings but both times the Falcons left them stranded. With the bases loaded in the fifth frame, sophomore Hannah Rockhold came up big getting the next two Falcons to strike out swinging.

Toledo other hit came off the bat of senior Leslie Stong as she led off the sixth inning with a single up the middle. The next three batters got out and stranded her there.

Rockhold pitched the whole game giving up one run on six hits while walking three and striking out nine. BGSU's Hayley Wiemer recorded the win as she pitched three innings in the circle giving up one hit and striking out four Rockets.

The Rockets are off the next week until they face Akron in a doubleheader on Friday, May 2 in Akron, OH. Toledo will then head to Athens, OH to take on Ohio University in a two-game series on Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4.
