Toledo, OH ? Junior Wade Ward won all four of his matches today and helped the Rockets to two wins over Butler, 4-3, and Wayne State, 5-2. Toledo is 14-9, 2-0 MAC and is on its longest winning streak of the season at four.
“Butler was a great team win,” Head Coach Al Wermer said. “Wayne State was a nice match. They are a dangerous team. We made some line-up adjustments and played great competition. We owe our ?7th Man' this victory. Our fans were fantastic, enthusiastic, spirited and intense.”
Wade partnered with junior Jay Miller against Butler's Brandon Bayliss and Sam Brown for the 8-3 win. Wade then teamed with freshman Gursher Harika for the 8-2 victory over Wayne State's Marlon Leone and Kevin Turnball. In singles Wade played at the No. 4 spot against WSU and No. 6 spot against BU.
Senior Chris Clark won all three of the matches he competed in. He teamed with freshman Sven Burus in doubles and played at the No. 2 spot in singles against Butler.
Freshman Leonardo Henriques played for the seventh time this season and received his fifth win. He played at the No. 6 spot against Wayne State's Felipe Fonseca for the 6-0, 6-0 shut out.
“Today was a good gateway to the rest of the season,” Wermer said.
Toledo will head to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes on Friday, April 4 at 6:00 p.m. The Rockets will then host their last match on Sunday, April 6 when they take on the Broncos of Western Michigan.
