Oxford, OH ? The Toledo softball team was downed, 10-2, by Penn State at the Best Western Miami Invitational on Saturday. The Rockets are 1-2 in the tourney and 5-6 overall on the season.

Sophomore Hannah Rockhold pitched five innings for the loss against the Nittany Lions. She gave up seven runs on six hits, striking out four. Junior Sierra Pereira relieved Rockhold in the bottom of the sixth inning for two outs. She gave up three runs on three hits.

UT could not string any hits together to score a run until the sixth inning when the Rockets plated two. Sophomore Lacey LeVier singled through the left side before being replaced by sophomore Mica Sanchez. Senior Erica Singer tripled to centerfield to score Sanchez. Junior Alison Hess was then hit by a pitch before advancing on a groundout by freshman Kelly Hmiel that scored Singer.

Toledo had five hits and no errors, while PSU had 10 hits and two errors.

The Rockets will finish the Miami Invitational on Sunday when they face Michigan State. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
