Toledo Falls at Arch-Rival Bowling Green, 3-0

BOWLING GREEN, OH ? Toledo dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) decision at arch-rival Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon in a match that saw the Rockets unable to score key points late in each set. The defeat drops UT to 10-13 overall and 2-8 in the MAC, while the Falcons' record improves to 18-7 and 7-3 in the league.

Junior OH Stephanie Kersting led Toledo offensively with 10 kills and a .227 attack percentage. Freshman OH Amber DeWeerdt and senior libero Lori Ruth each collected a team-high 16 digs, while freshman S Kassie Kadera garnered 31 assists and 13 digs.

Meghan Mohr powered the Falcons' attack a match-best 14 kills and .433 hitting mark, while Chesley Meek notched a match-high 19 digs.

Toledo started the match strong jumping out to an 8-5 advantage in the first set. The Rockets maintained their lead until Bowling Green tied the score at 13-13. The Falcons snapped a 15-15 tie with a three-point run and the closest the Midnight Blue and Gold could come the rest of the way was two points. Kersting led the Rockets in the set with five of her 10 kills in addition to posting a .300 ATK%.

UT fell behind early in the second set and rallied from a 14-9 deficit with a 7-2 run to tie the score at 16-16 and force a Falcon timeout. The set remained tight until another three-point string by Bowling Green put UT down by a 23-20 margin. UT utilized a balanced offense in the set as five different Rockets tallied two kills apiece.

Toledo also led early in the third set with a 12-9 edge before the Falcons rallied to take a 16-13 advantage. The Rockets regrouped and sophomore Margot Joniec's kill tied the score at 18-18. UT was within a point at 22-21 but the Falcons closed out the match with three straight points. Kersting and junior MB Lyndsey Holt led UT offensively in the set with three kills apiece.

The Rockets will return to action on Friday, Oct. 31 with a trip to Mt. Pleasant, MI to face MAC West Division foe Central Michigan.
