DEKALB, IL - Toledo saw its four-game win streak at Northern Illinois' Convocation Center end this afternoon with a 78-62 setback to the Huskies. The Rockets' 18-game winning streak vs. Mid-American Conference West Division opponents also came to an end as NIU's bench matched UT's scoring total with 62 points.
With the victory, NIU improves to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in MAC action, while the Rockets fall to 4-10 on the campaign and 1-1 in conference play.
Junior guards Jonathan Amos and Tyrone Kent led Toledo offensively with 17 and 16 points, respectively, but the Rockets were hampered by a defensive effort that allowed the Huskies to shoot a season-best 54.7% (29-of-53) from the field. Amos scored all but two of his points in the second half, while Kent tallied 14 of his points in the opening stanza.
Junior guard Jarvis Nichols led NIU's reserves with a game-high 21 points, while forwards Sean
Smith and Bristan Kelley posted season highs of 18 and 11 points, respectively.
As a team, Toledo shot 38.2% (21-for-55) from the field, marking the sixth time in the Huskies' last eight games that their opponent has been held to under 40.0% shooting.
Toledo will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 16, when it hosts Central Michigan in Savage Hall at 7:00 p.m. The Chippewas suffered an 82-71 setback at Ball State today and are 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
