TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (0-1) opened its 2007 campaign with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-16, 31-29) setback this afternoon to IUPUI (1-0) in its first match at the seventh-annual Rocket Classic. Senior OH TaNeisha Winters and junior OH Shannon Strachan led the Rockets' attack with 10 kills apiece, while senior MB Brittany Alaburda notched a team-high .571 attack percentage with four kills and no errors in seven attack attempts.
Junior libero Lori Ruth paced UT's defense with 15 digs, while sophomore S Mallory Ladd added 11 digs to go along with 32 assists.
Devika Bellamy led the Jaguars' attack with a match-high 15 killks as IUPUI notched a .291 attack percentage thanks to three Jaguars ? Monica Suding (.600 - 6-0-10), Danielle Goodnight (.571 - 4-0-7) and Ashley Johnson (.429 - 7-1-14) ? registering attack clips of .400 or higher. Bellamy also paced IUPUI at the net defensively with six blocks tying her for the match high with Johnson.
The Rockets will face Xavier in their second match of the day at 7:30 p.m. Cleveland State opened the tournament with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-27, 30-24) victory over Bradley and will face IUPUI at 5:00 p.m. Xavier faces Bradley in the third match of the day at 3:00 p.m.
