Final Stats

TOLEDO, OH - Sophomore hurlers Mike Inselmann and Jeff Cinadr combined for a five hitter and led Toledo to a 7-2 victory over Bowling Green in Saturday's Mid-American Conference action at Scott Park.

The Rockets' duo kept the opposition off-balance at the plate, as they finished with five strikeouts and no walks to end a nine-game skid against their arch-rivals. Inselmann (3-3) was brilliant in the first seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and three strikeouts, before Cinadr surrendered only one hit over the final two frames to improve UT to 15-13 overall and 6-5 in the MAC.

With the situation under control on the mound for the home team, the Toledo offense found its stride and finished with 10 hits against two BGSU pitchers, including two apiece from junior Nate McKeon, sophomore Jake Oester and freshman Josh Johnson.

The Falcons (14-18, 2-9 MAC) opened the scoring in their first at-bat on a RBI single up the middle by Ryan Shay, who finished with a game-high three hits. The visitors pounded out two hits were aided by a pair of wild pitches from Inselmann.

After going down in order the first two innings, Toledo solved BGSU starter Nick Cantrell (2-5) in the third and tallied a pair of runs to take a lead it would not surrender. The first three UT hitters recorded hits through the right side and junior Drew Hoisington and McKeon each drove in a run to give the home team a 2-1 edge.

The Rockets added to their advantage an inning later with two tallies on three hits to establish a three-run cushion. The top of UT's order sparked the rally for the second-consecutive frame, as three of the first four hitters reached base and the top two scored.

Facing a deficit for the first time this weekend, the Falcons took advantage of three costly UT errors in the sixth to plate one run and make the score 4-2.

Fortunately, the Rockets recovered in the seventh and added a pair of insurance runs to end the afternoon for Nick Cantrell. One inning later, the Midnight Blue and Gold put the final dagger into the Falcons with its seventh run to claim the five-run victory.

The two teams will wrap up three-game series tomorrow beginning at 1:00 p.m.
