Softball Finishes 0-5 at the Bulldog Cassic

Fresno, CA - Toledo softball returns from the Bulldog Classic in Fresno, California 0-5. The Rockets suffered losses to Purdue 4-0, Colorado State 7-2, BYU 4-0, Fresno State 9-0 and Penn State 5-1.

In their first game against Colorado State, in the fifth inning senior Denise Van Vossen hit a single to send Valerie Moxim home to put the Rockets on the score board. Then junior Leslie Stong hit her fourth home run of the season to score the only other run for the Rockets in the game.

In the 4-0 loss to Purdue the Rockets had only three hits against the Boilermakers. Sophomores Brie Ford and Alison Hess each had a hit and so did freshman Mica Sanchez. Freshman Hannah Rockhold came in for relief in the fifth inning and had three strikeouts for the Rockets.

Later that afternoon Toledo lost to BYU 4-0. Stong and junior Megan McCauley had the only hits for the Rockets while Rockhold pitched her first full games as a collegiate pitcher. She finished with six strike outs.

The Rockets then suffered a 9-0 loss to host Fresno State the next day. Freshman Kate Ricchio hit a double for UT and Lacey LeVier hit two. Sophomore Andrea Wabol also had two hits for the Rockets.

The Rockets finished the weekend with a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Big Ten power Penn State. Toledo jumped a head of the Nittany Lions 1-0 in the top of the third inning when Ricchio scored from third base with one out on a Sanchez groundout to second base.

Juniors Leslie Stong and Megan McCauley and freshman Kate Ricchio led the Rockets with three hits a piece in the five games over the weekend.

Toledo will travel to Oxford, Ohio to play in the Miami invitational Mar 23-25. The tournament teams will include Purdue, Michigan State and Youngstown State.
