KENT, Ohio (AP) -Chris Singletary scored on a layup with 33 seconds left to break a tie and give Kent State the lead for good in a 64-60 win over Toledo Tuesday night.
Singletary, who scored 14 overall and had nine rebounds, also gave the Golden Flashes (15-8, 8-2 Mid-American) their final two points on free throws. Julian Sullinger scored a career-high 17 points for Kent State and Omni Smith came of the bench to add 13. Mike Scott had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Senior guard Justin Ingram scored 17 points for the Rockets (12-10, 8-2) and senior forward Keonta Howell added 10.
Toledo had a five-point lead, its largest of the game, with about 13 minutes left in the first half. Kent State had a 32-29 lead at halftime and was ahead by as much as six points in the second half. The Rockets never held the lead in the second half but sophomore guard Tyrone Kent tied it at 58 with a three-pointer with 1:31 remaining. A Smith layup gave Kent State a two-point lead and senior forward Florentino Valencia answered with a layup to tie it again before Singletary's final layup.
Kent scored 17 points off turnovers to Toledo's six. Kent also held the advantage in the paint, scoring 42 to Toledo's 20, and in second-chance points, scoring 16 to Toledo's two.
It was Kent State's sixth straight win and seventh straight win at home.
The Rockets return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 with a 7:00 p.m. tipoff vs. East Division leader Akron (17-4, 8-1 MAC). The Zips will host Central Michigan on Wednesday before coming to Toledo.
