Head Coach Stan Joplin

"We're obviously happy that we won the game and we're able to protect our homecourt. It wasn't a great shooting display for us, but I think we did a decent job defensively for most of the game. When they cut it to six we got defensive stops in the next nine possessions and that was probably the ballgame."

(on the team's defensive success in the first half)

"We wanted to make Martin Samarco to work for his points. He does a good job at moving without the ball and they're always looking for him. We wanted to keep pressure on the ball and help out as much as we could. We didn't get a lot of steals but we played solid defense."

(on Jonathan Amos' play)

"Jonathan can drive and make some plays going to the basket. He also has a nice pull-up jump shot. He took what the defense gave him tonight and that's what we want him to do. I told him if he really wants to make a name for himself and really help this team defense is the way to go. He understands that we need him to be our defensive stopper and he's one of the better defensive players in the league."

Sophomore guard Jonathan Amos

(on getting nine rebounds)

"Rebounding period is a very crucial part of the game. Offensive rebounds take away a team's defensive momentum and an offensive rebound gets you another chance at a basket."

(on playing with a smile on his face)

"I tend to always smile, laugh and joke around because I don't want to let the other team get to me and see when I'm weak. So I just go out there and have fun."

(on scoring 16 points tonight)

"I just take what the defense gives me. Coach, he wants me to go out there and get defensive rebounds and that's what I do. The points then come where I just take what they give me."

(on what makes him happier - scoring 16 points or holding Martin Samarco to 13 points)

"The fact that I was playing well defensively against them. He leads the MAC in scoring and I held him under his average."
