Toledo Suffers First MAC Loss at Kent State, 1-0

10/14/2007 4:00:00 AM

KENT, OH ? Kimberly Dimitroff led Kent State (6-6-1, 4-2-0 MAC) to a 1-0 win over Toledo on Sunday afternoon at the KSU Soccer Field. Today's setback ended a school-record eight game winning streak for the Rockets, which dropped their first Mid-American Conference match of the season, falling to 5-1-0 in the league, 10-3-1 overall.

Dimitroff scored the match's lone goal, and her fifth of the year, in the 76th minute hooking a 12-yard shot from the left side past Toledo sophomore goalie Andrea Plewes into the right end off the net. KSU's Brittany Fracasso was credited with an assist on the play, after splitting a pair of defenders with a through pass to Dimitroff.

Despite the loss, UT held a sizable 18-8 advantage in shots, including a season-high seven by sophomore Molly Cornwell. Classmate Ali Leak and senior Pene Hughes also fired three shots in the contest. Today marked just the second time this season the MAC's top-scoring offense was held in check.

KSU netminder Kris Nelson, who made four saves on the day, and the Golden Flashes defense pitched its fourth shutout of the season. Plewes also stopped four shots for the Midnight Blue and Gold and suffered her first loss in 2007.

UT is back on the road next weekend with matches at Miami on Friday, Oct. 19 at 4:00 p.m. and Ball State on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
