Toledo (5-12, 2-2 MAC) cruised to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-23) triumph at Akron (7-10, 1-3 MAC) tonight to even its conference record at .500. The Rockets will now play their next four MAC matches in Savage Hall after opening their conference campaign on the road for the first two weekends.
Senior OH Kate Bean (21 kills) and junior OH Sarah Kreher (seven kills) each registered season-high .500 attack percentages to help UT post a season-high .347 hitting clip. Toledo's previous best was a .320 mark at Miami last Saturday.
Four other Rockets also hit .200 or better with freshman OH Stephanie Kersting at .833 (5-0-6), junior OH TaNeisha Winters at .300 (8-2-20) and freshman MB Liz Sundburg (7-4-15) and junior MB Brittany Alaburda (5-3-10) both at .200.
Bean paced the Rockets' defensive efforts as well with 14 digs, two days after she set a school record with 39 defensive stops at Ball State. Sundburg was UT's top blocker by turning away three Zip attacks.
"We had a nice team effort tonight and I thought we were determined and took control of the match right from the start of the match," UT Head Coach Kent Miller said. "We had great contributions from a lot of different player with Emi doing a great job running the offense and Kate leading us offensively and defensively."
Toledo out-hit Akron by a .347-.182 margin in the match. UT was in command for the majority of the night and hit a whopping .562 in the first game and .354 in the third.
The Rockets will host a pair of MAC East Division schools next weekend with Kent State visiting the Glass City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 and three-time defending MAC champion Ohio coming into town for a 3:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Oct. 7
