Toledo (1-2) came up just short in its 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-26) defeat this afternoon at the hands of Western Kentucky (3-1) in its first match today of the sixth-annual Rocket Classic. The Rockets will face Michigan (3-0) in their final match of the tournament at 7:30 p.m.
Senior OH Kate Bean led the Rockets with 12 kills to along with 11 digs for her second straight double-double. Junior OH Sarah Kreher and freshman OH Stephanie Kersting each added seven kills, while senior libero Lora Sarich collected a match-high 19 digs.
Freshman S Mallory Ladd collected 27 assists, six digs and two blocks for UT.
Sophomore MB Megan Argabright paced the Lady Toppers' attack with 16 kills and freshman Aquila Orr tallied 12 kills.
After WKU captured the opening game, the Rockets rallied from a 19-11 deficit in the second frame to take a 24-22 advantage. However, the Lady Toppers managed to retake the lead and scored the game's final five points. The Rockets also rallied from an early deficit in Game 3 to tie the contest at 19-19 before WKU regained control to secure the victory.
