Playing without two starters against Wright State in its second match of today's sixth-annual Rocket Classic, Toledo (1-1) dropped a 3-0 (30-22, 30-19, 30-21) decision to the Raiders (1-1). Senior OH Kate Bean and junior S Emi Holsclaw both did not play in the contest due to injury with Bean expected to see some action in the Rockets' matches tomorrow.
Freshman OH Stephanie Kersting led the Rockets' attack with nine kills and also shared team dig honors with senior libero Lora Sarich with 14 apiece. Junior OH Sarah Kreher and junior OH TaNeisha Winters each collected six kills for the Rockets.
Wright State led throughout of the match and was led by sophomore MB Lizzy Gunn's 12 kills with freshman libero Lexi Leonhard collecting a match-high 22 digs. Gunn also shared the team block lead with senior Jenny Schultz.
"Wright State was really prepared to play us tonight and they were consistent throughout the match," UT Head Coach Kent Miller said. "Even though we played without two starters we didn't rise to the occasion like I thought we would and this is a disappointing loss for us."
The Rockets will face Western Kentucky (1-1) in their first match of the day tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. followed by a meeting with Michigan (2-0) at 7:30 p.m.
