Final Stats
MUNCIE, IN - Ball State (27-18, 13-7 MAC) scored runs in six different innings and shutout Toledo (20-24, 7-14 MAC), 13-0, in Sunday's series finale at the Ball Diamond.
The Cardinals finished off the weekend sweep with 13 hits against four Rocket hurlers, including four home runs. Eight of their nine starters had a hit and three tallied more than one. Their main offensive weapons were Brad Miller and C.J. Webb, who went a combined 6-for-9 with four runs scored, eight RBI and three round trippers.
On the other hand, the Rockets were held to only five hits and no player had than one tally. They had only four players get into scoring position off three BSU pitchers.
BSU's Ryan Degeeter (3-4) was masterful in seven innings of work, as he limited UT to only four hits with a pair of strikeouts. Kory Bucklew and Jeff Michael each tossed a scoreless frame of relief to blank the Midnight Blue and Gold for the second time this season. Missouri State also shutout UT, 4-0, back on Sunday, March 18.
The home team exploded out of the gate in the bottom of the first with four runs to take a commanding lead. They did their damage on the strength of a pair of two-run home runs by off the bats of Miller and Webb. Toledo was also victimized by a costly throwing error, which prolonged the frame and as a result all runs in the inning were unearned.
The Cardinals added single tallies in both the second and third innings after the first two outs had been recorded on a RBI single up the middle by Matt Singleton and another home run by Webb to make the score 6-0.
BSU pushed across another run in the fifth on a RBI single off the bat of Justin Rogers to end the afternoon for UT sophomore starter Levi Curry (4-4). The Mount Vernon, OH native suffered today's loss and surrendered seven runs on seven hits and no strikeouts.
Ball State continued to pour it on the sixth inning with five runs, including four off UT freshman reliever Dan Gatins, to establish a double-digit lead. They finished the scoring in the seventh with a solo round-tripper by Eric Earnhart to make the final score 13-0.
The Rockets return to action tomorrow when they travel to Fort Wayne, IN to battle IPFW. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
