Final Stats
Bowling Green, OH -
For the second day in a row, the Toledo softball team gave arch-rival Bowling Green all they could handle, but fell once again in dramatic fashion, losing 6-5 in eight innings. The Rockets drop to 13-36 overall, 4-13 in the Mid-American conference, while the Falcons improve to 32-20 overall, 13-5 in the MAC.
Toledo out-hit Bowling Green 12-7 in the game, but once again struggled with timely hitting, stranding nine runners. UT jumped out to a 5-1 advantage, after giving up a run in the first inning, but were victimized by a four-run BG sixth that tied the game at five.
The Rockets put together a three-run third inning to put the Falcons in an early hole. A bunt single by Leslie Stong with one out started things out for UT, before back-to-back doubles by Brie Ford and Gina Muratori brought Stong around to score.
A sacrifice fly by Erica Singer brought home Ford for the second run of the inning, before a throwing error by the BG catcher plated Muratori.
The Rockets missed a golden opportunity to add to the lead in the fourth inning after loading the bases with just one out. Andrea Wabol was called out at home, however, on a fielder's choice by Ford and Muratori grounded out to end the threat.
After both teams failed to score in the seventh inning, the game went to an extra frame. Toledo went down in order in their half of the eighth, before a home run by Gina Rango, the first batter of the BG eighth, won the game for the Falcons and gave Rango her second game winning hit in as many days.
Several players contributed solid efforts at the plate for UT, led by Muratori with two hits and two RBI. Stong also had two hits, along with Wabol and Denise Van Vossen, while Singer had a pair of RBI. Stephanie Moore threw every pitch for the Rockets on the mound, striking out four and giving up seven hits, and took the loss for the second day in a row.
The Rockets, losers of five straight games are off until Friday when they travel to Northern Illinois for a MAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
