YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Pierre Walker scored on an 18-yard run with 36 seconds remaining in the game to lift Eastern Michigan to a 17-13 victory over Toledo on Saturday.
Walker's touchdown to snap the Eagles' six-game losing streak came after Toledo took its first lead of the day, then allowed Eastern Michigan (1-6, 1-3 Mid-American) to cut into the lead by returning a fumble on a 2-point conversion.
The Rockets (2-6, 0-4), which hadn't lost to Eastern Michigan since 1999, took a 13-9 lead with 3:11 remaining after an Eagles penalty kept a drive alive.
Eastern Michigan was called for roughing the kicker as Alex Steigerwald pushed a 30-yard field goal attempt wide right, leading to a 4-yard touchdown pass from Clint Cochran to Josh Powell.
Toledo coach Tom Amstutz elected to go for two points to try to extend the Rockets' lead to six. But Kevin Howe forced Cochran to fumble, setting up Darran Matthews' 85-yard return.
The Eagles needed only five plays to drive deep into Toledo territory, setting up Walker's game-winning touchdown.
Eastern Michigan led 9-0 at halftime after Andrew Wellock kicked field goals of 48, 38 and 43 yards.
The Eagles threatened to extend their lead late in the third quarter, driving to the Toledo 5-yard line. But on third and goal, Andy Schmitt's pass attempt was picked off by Tyrrell Herbert and returned to the Toledo 45.
The Rockets marched 55 yards on nine plays and broke their scoreless drought with 11:41 remaining when tailback Jalen Parmele scored on a 14-yard drive.
