AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Nick Dials and Cedrick Middleton each scored 12 points and Akron shot 56 percent from the field to beat Toledo 75-58 on Saturday night.
Dru Joyce added 11 points and six assists and Romeo Travis had 10 points for the Zips (8-3, 2-0 Mid-American Conference). They led 38-28 at the half after hitting 52 percent from the field, then shot 63 percent in the second half to build their lead to as much as 22 points.
Justin Ingram and Florentino Valencia each scored 14 points for the Rockets (7-4, 0-3).
Toledo led from the outset after a 3-pointer by Sammy Villegas and a layup by Valencia, but the Zips took the lead for good on Travis' two free throws with the game less than 4 minutes old.
Ahead by 10 at the half, Akron had its lead cut to six points in the first 2:35 of the second half but ran off the next eight points. The lead never fell below double figures again.
