TOLEDO, OH -
Senior April Williams earned Toledo Athlete of the Week honors by dominating the jumps at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Saturday, vaulting herself into the UT record books and the NCAA Championships.
Williams broke her own school record in the triple jump with an amazing leap of 41-10. Her previous UT record was 41-5, set two weeks ago at Eastern Michigan. She defeated her nearest competitor by 20 inches. Her performance also qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, AR on March 17-18.
Williams also recorded a personal-best leap of 19-10 1/4 in the long jump, edging out BU's Tahari James (19-9) for meet honors. It was also the second-best effort in Toledo history, trailing only the 20-3 1/2 mark set by UT Hall of Famer Candy Campbell in 1994.
