Final Stats
TOLEDO, OH - Sean Dobson finished 4-for-4 with five RBI and became Toledo's all-time hit leader as the Rockets (18-30, 7-12 MAC) claimed a 19-8 win over Bowling Green (25-16, 10-9 MAC) in the opener of their Mid-American Conference series at Scott Park.
With a single to center field in the seventh inning, Dobson passed 2003 All-America selection Mitch Maier for first place in school annals with 239 career hits.
The Rockets pounded out 19 hits in the contest, including eight for extra bases, to run their winning streak to a season-best four straight. Eight of the nine UT starters collected a base hit, with six notching multi-hit efforts.
Senior Shawn Hurst was not to be outdone by Dobson, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs en route to driving in a career-best six runs. Hurst now leads the Rockets with nine round-trippers on the season.
Other key contributors to the Rockets' attack included seniors Jarrod Resendez (3-for-4, 4 runs scored, 3 RBI) and Aaron Rouser (2-for-5, 4 runs scored, RBI) and juniors Dan Ruth (2-for-3, 2 RBI, run scored) and Matt Ruth (3-for-5, run scored).
Junior J.R. Duffey (4-6) earned the complete-game win after allowing eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits, to go along with a career-best 11 strikeouts. Duffey, who is now tied for the team lead with three complete games on the season, is a perfect 3-0 in three career starts against the Falcons, going the distance in each ballgame.
Toledo scored a season-best 11 runs in the first, one in the second and fifth, four in the seventh and two in the eighth to bring its total to 19. The Falcons scored two runs in the first, four in the fourth and two in the ninth, but it would not be enough to hoist them past the Rockets.
Bowling Green starter Keith Laughlin (3-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on just three hits without retiring a batter. The Falcons did not help Laughlin's cause in the opening frame committing three errors.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a 1:00 p.m. contest. The series finale will take place on Sunday, May 16, also at 1:00 p.m.
