Final Stats
Toledo, OH -
Junior C Jessica Horn crushed a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Toledo (6-14, 1-1 MAC) to a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green (11-14, 1-1 MAC) and give the Rockets a split of their doubleheader with the Falcons. Horn's blast made a winner out of freshman Stephanie Moore (4-3), who allowed just one unearned run and limited BG to four hits in her complete-game effort.
Toledo's victory snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Falcons and improved the Rockets' record vs. Bowling Green in home games to 19-16.
The Falcons posted a 3-0 triumph in the first game behind sophomore Liz Vrabel (5-8) who hurled a one-hitter with six strikeouts. Junior Kim Pettitt (1-9) was the hard-luck loser for UT in the opener after allowing three runs (two earned) and seven hits.
Bowling Green scored all of its runs in the third inning on RBI singles from SS Jenifer Kernahan and RF Kristin Anderson in addition to a misplayed ball in the outfield.
In the second game, Moore retired the first 12 batters she faced before walking Kernahan. Pinch-runner Marla Murphy advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a passed ball. After Moore was able to get DP Ashley Zirkle to ground out to third base, C Abby Habicht delivered a single up the middle for the game's first run and set the stage for Horn's heroics.
Sophomore 1B Kristin DuVall drew a walk to open the sixth inning and pinch-runner Kate Moxim moved up to second base on a passed ball. Horn followed with her game-winning homer, her first on the season and fourth of her career.
The two teams will meet again in a single game tomorrow beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
