Toledo (12-4, 2-4 MAC) rebounded from a disappointing setback to Bowling Green on Friday night with a 3-1 (25-30, 30-25, 30-26, 30-25) victory at Savage Hall this afternoon over Western Michigan (9-8, 3-3 MAC).
Senior OH Rachel Mohler led the Rockets with a match-high 16 kills and was followed by junior MB Corrie Magnus (14 kills) and sophomore OH Kate Bean (10 kills). Redshirt freshman S Sarah Kreher collected 45 assists, 10 digs, five kills and a .364 ATK% in her second straight start for the Rockets.
Toledo registered 12 service aces in the match for its most in a conference contest this season. Kreher and junior MB Kelsey Culver led the way with three aces apiece. Sophomore libero Lora Sarich paced UT's defensive effort with a match-high 18 digs with Culver (2 BS - 3 BA) and Magnus (3 BS - 1 BA) leading the charge at the net.
Each game of the match was evenly contested and the Rockets utilized late surges to gain the victory. In the second game with the score tied at 20-20, UT went on a 5-0 run to secure the win. In the third game, the Rockets had a 4-0 run with the scored tied at 20-20. In the fourth game, Toledo took control with five straight points after the score was tied at 16-16.
Toledo returns to action with a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Valparaiso (16-3) before returning home next weekend for two home matches. The Rockets will entertain Miami on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. before hosting Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 5:00 p.m. The contest vs. the Bobcats was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m. but has been pushed back two hours due to the Rockets' football game vs. Ohio being moved to a noon start in order to be televised by ESPN.
