Toledo (13-9, 3-7 MAC) dropped a 3-0 (31-29, 30-23, 31-29) decision tonight at Central Michigan (6-16, 3-8 MAC) as the Chippewas utilized a balanced attack to gain the victory at Rose Arena.
The Rockets were led offensively by the trio of senior OH Rachel Mohler, junior MB Kelsey Culver and sophomore OH Kate Bean with each registering 12 kills.
Sophomore Lora Sarich led Toledo defensively with a match-high 18 digs.
Three CMU players were in double figures in kills with Kristen Buter and Meghan Moore leading the way with 16 each. Emily Lovejoy was right behind with 14.
Games one and three featured dramatic finishes as both were tied at 29. CMU held a 29-28 lead in game one, but Buter had a hitting error that tied the score. However, she redeemed herself with back-to-back kills to give CMU the game.
In game three, the Chippewas trailed 29-28 but Buter again worked her magic posting two straight kills to give CMU a 30-29 lead and then a Toledo hitting error gave the Chippewas the game and the match.
CMU hit .271 in the match compared to Toledo's .227 mark. The Chippewas outblocked Toledo, 6-5, and each team had seven aces.
The Rockets return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 26 to begin a three-match homestand with a non-conference matchup vs. Cleveland State. UT will then wrap up its 2004 home campaign next weekend with matches vs. Northern Illinois on Friday, Oct. 29 and Akron on Saturday, Oct. 30.
