YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Senior guard Keith Triplett and sophomore guard Sammy Villegas led four players in double figures with 17 points each to lift Toledo to an 85-69 win over
Eastern Michigan on Monday night.
Freshman point guard Justin Ingram scored 15 points and freshman forward Florentino Valencia added 13 points and a team- and season-high eight rebounds in his first career start for the Rockets.
Toledo (12-3, 6-1 Mid-American) established control of the game in the first
half, shooting a sizzling 56.3 percent from the field, including 6-of-11 from
3-point range, to take a 46-25 lead at halftime. Eastern (6-8, 1-5) managed to
shoot only 28.6 percent and went 0-of-9 from 3-point range in the first half.
UT jumped out to an early 17-8 advantage with Ingram, Pinson and Valencia combining for 14 of UT's points. The Rockets then pushed their lead to 38-17 with 6:17 remaining on a Triplett three-pointer.
The Eagles rallied in the second half to cut the lead to 68-61 with 5:29
left, but that was as close as Eastern got after the Rockets went on a 12-3 run
to increase the margin to 80-64.
JaQuan Hart led the Eagles with 19 points, 15 of which came in the
second half, while John Bowler added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Toledo will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 22 when it battles arch-rival Bowling Green (8-8, 4-2 MAC) at Savage Hall. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
