Toledo Falls to Western Kentucky, 3-0

Bowling Green, KY - Toledo (2-5) dropped a 3-0 (30-14, 30-21, 30-16) decision tonight to host Western Kentucky (7-2) in the first day of the WKU Invitational. Sophomore middle blocker Corrie Magnus led the Rockets with seven kills and a .286 attack percentage.

The Lady Toppers were paced by sophomore Crystal Towler, who hit a season-high .632 from the field and led all players with 13 kills. Three other Lady Toppers hit over .500 for the match, including junior Amanda Schiff (.769, 10 kills and no errors on 13 attempts), sophomore Caron Blotch (.556, five kills and no errors on nine attempts) and junior Lyndsey Broerman (.556, six kills and one error on nine attempts). As a team, Western hit .471, just shy of the school record of .486 set by the Lady Toppers against Mercer on Sept. 2, 2000.

"We started both Games 1 and 2 strong but Western Kentucky was able to break us in both games," said UT Head Coach Kent Miller. "We struggled making plays that we normally handle pretty well, and we're disappointed with this loss. We're looking forward to getting back to action tomorrow, and I think we'll be up to the challenges we face."

Toledo returns to action tomorrow with contests against Tennessee-Martin at 3:00 p.m. and James Madison at 6:00 p.m. The (12 p.m., CST) and Tennessee-Martin (7 p.m.). The Skyhawks (1-8) posted a five-game win over the Dukes (5-4) in the first match today.
