TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo men's tennis team was defeated by Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois, 5-2, this afternoon at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. With the loss the Rockets fall to 6-12 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Huskies improve to 1308 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.

In doubles action, the team of freshman Freddy Gomez and senior Dipesh Rao defeated NIU's Willy Gali and Stephen Guntly 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. UT did not receive a point, as a team must win at least two matches to claim the doubles point.

In singles action, Gomez downed Guntly (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 5 spot, while sophomore Mirsad Begic upended Ryan Schnack (6-2, 7-6).

"This match was about as close as it can get," Toledo Head Men's Tennis Coach Al Wermer said. "Northern Illinois just out played us at a couple of key intervals."

The Rockets will resume conference play tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Fort Wayne, IN to battle IUPU - Fort Wayne. Action is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
