Iowa City, IA - The University of Toledo men's tennis team was defeated, 5-2, by Iowa this afternoon at UI's Recreation Building. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 3-5 on the season, while the Hawkeyes improve to 2-0.
In No. 2 doubles, the team of sophomores Tony Tran and Khalid Al Nabhani defeated the Hawkeyes' Johan Bergenas and Tres Jones, 8-5. UT did not receive a point, as a team must win at least two matches to claim the doubles point.
In singles action, UT recorded wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles spots. At the No. 4 singles spot, Tran upended UI's Parker Ross (7-5, 6-2), while fellow sophomore Mirsad Begic came-from-behind to defeat Johan Bergenas (0-6, 6-3, 7-6, 7-5) in No. 5 singles action.
"It was very tough to comeback and beat a good player like Johan," Begic said. "Tough matches like these will prepare us for the MAC (Mid-American Conference) season."
The Rockets will be in action again on Saturday, Feb. 15 against the Michigan Wolverines. Action will start at noon.
