TOLEDO, OH - Senior guard Keith Triplett tallied a game-high 21 points and sophomore guard Sammy Villegas added 18 points to lead Toledo (7-1) to a 103-66 victory over Wright State (2-6) tonight at Savage Hall.
The Rockets shot 63 percent from three-point range, making a school-record 17 of 27
attempts, including 5-for-7 by Villegas and 5-of-8 for Triplett. Seven different Rockets connected on a three-pointer including the record-setting trey by freshman walk-on Will Burger with 5:17 remaining in the game which surpassed the previous mark of 16 vs. Marshall on Jan. 12, 1990. UT connected on 76.5 percent (13-of-17) of its threes in the first half which also set a school record for most threes in a half.
Toledo took control of the contest immediately by jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes and led 19-4 less than five minutes into the game. The closest the Raiders came the rest of the contest was within nine and the largest UT lead was 40 points when it led by a 103-63 margin with 1:59 to play.
All 14 Rockets scored in the contest with Burger leading the UT reserves with nine points followed by freshmen Justin Ingram and Keonta Howell with eight points apiece.
UT shot 58.1 percent for the game to raise its season field-goal percentage to 48.5 percent. The Rockets are now averaging 80.5 points per game and outscoring their opposition by an average of 12.3 points per game.
Toledo will now take three days off for the Christmas holidays before resuming practice on Dec. 26. The Rockets will next be in action on Tuesday, Dec. 30 with a trip to legendary Freedom Hall to face No. 20 Louisville (5-1). The Cardinals will face VMI on Tuesday, Dec. 23 and No. 1 Kentucky on Saturday, Dec. 27 before hosting the Rockets.
