Rockets to Visit Wright State on Tuesday Night

Tipoff at Nutter Center set for 7:00 p.m.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team will play its first road game of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 11 when it takes on Wright State (1-1) in Dayton, Ohio. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+. The Rockets (0-2) are aiming to bounce back from a pair of home setbacks last week to Sun Belt Conference foes South Alabama (76-74) and Marshall (85-73).

Junior Sonny Wilson is leading the Rockets with 15.5 ppg, with senior Kyler Vanderjagt and freshman Leroy Blyden Jr. tallying 13.5 ppg.  Vanderjagt is pacing the Rockets with six three-point field goals to go along with a 60.0 3-PT FG%, while Blyden is dishing out a team-best 6.5 apg. Senior Sean Craig is also scoring in double digits with 11.0 ppg and has grabbed a team-high 8.0 rpg.

Craig and Wilson paced the Rockets' attack in Saturday's loss to Marshall with 16 points apiece. Blyden and Vanderjagt also reached double digits in the scoring column with 10 points each.

Toledo led by as many as 14 points in the first half before the Thundering Herd rallied for the victory. UT limited Marshall to four triples in the opening 20 minutes but allowed 11 treys following intermission.

Wright State was tabbed to finish seventh in the Horizon League's Coaches Preseason Poll. The Raiders opened their season last week with an 86-37 home win over Franklin on Monday before dropping a 77-67 decision at Cal on Thursday.

Freshman Michael Cooper is leading WSU with 13.5 ppg and is also averaging 5.0 rpg and 3.0 apg. Graduate student Michael Imariagbe and redshirt freshman Alex Bruskotter also are scoring in double digits with 11.5 and 11.0 ppg, respectively.

SERIES
Series tied 8-8.
Toledo has won its last two meetings vs. WSU after dropping three in a row in the series. UT posted a 78-77 win in its last visit to the Nutter Center in 2023.

DETAILING TOMORROW'S MATCHUP
• The Toledo-Wright State series is knotted at 8-8 with the first matchup taking place in 1985.  The Rockets possess an all-time record of 4-3 in Dayton, including a 78-77 victory in the Nutter Center on Nov. 14, 2023.
• Sonny Wilson scored a team-high 20 points and five Rockets scored in double figures in last year's 86-77 win over the Raiders in Savage Arena. Wilson knocked down 7-of-9 shots to help Toledo shoot 56.1% from the field. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to key the Rockets' 37-33 advantage on the boards.
• Prior to this season, Toledo had started its season with a 2-0 mark on seven occasions and a 1-1 record five times in the last 12 years under Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk. The last time UT opened a season with two straight defeats was in the 2012-13 campaign.

ROCKETS IN THE MAC RANKINGS
• Toledo is tied for second in the MAC with 18.5 apg.
• UT ranks third with a 40.4 three-point FG% and is tied for third with a 78.6 FT% and a 1.48 assist/turnover ratio.
• Freshman Leroy Blyden Jr. is tied for second with 6.5 apg.
• Senior Kyle Vanderjagt is tied for fourth with 3.0 three-point FGs per game.
• Senior Sean Craig is tied for fifth with 8.0 rpg.

ROAD WARRIORS
Although UT was 6-9 in road games last season, the Rockets have posted a 40-28 (.588) win-loss mark in road games since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. Toledo possesses a 63-48 (.568) win-loss mark on enemy courts since the start of the 2017-18 season.

ON THE HORIZON
Toledo will host Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. and Youngstown State on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
