Oct. 26, 2003

Toledo, OH - Toledo (9-15, 5-6 MAC) registered its second five-game victory of the season over Central Michigan (11-12, 5-5 MAC) with a 3-2 (30-28, 24-30, 30-23, 25-30, 15-13) triumph this afternoon at Savage Hall. The win was the Rockets' fourth straight home victory as well as their third consecutive win in five-game matches.

Five Rockets registered double-figure point and double-figure kill totals led by junior outside hitter Rachel Mohler with 19 points (17 kills , one ace and two block assists). Sophomore right-side hitter Chelsey Poquette contributed a career-high 16 kills and a .364 attack percentage as well as eight digs.

"It was good to see Chelsey step up for us today with a big match," UT Head Coach Kent Miller said. "She came up with some key plays for us and our ball control allowed us to spread the ball around today."

Toledo also held a significant serving advantage with 16 aces compared to the Chippewas' three. Sophomore middle blocker Kesley Culver led the Rockets with five while freshman outside hitter Kate Bean added four and sophomore middle blocker Corrie Magnus collected three.

"I was very pleased with our serving today after not serving well in our last two matches," Miller said. "It was very important for us to serve well today because Central is a very good attacking team and we needed to try to get them out of their offense as much as possible."

Freshman libero Lora Sarich led the Rockets on the defensive end with 17 digs, while Magnus paced UT at the net with five total blocks.

In the fifth game, the Rockets trailed early but finally took their first lead at 8-7. The teams then exchanged points until it was 13-13 when Magnus and senior setter Carrie McCaw registered a block for a 14-13 lead and the Chippewas' Meghan Moore saw her final attack of the day go long on match point.

The Rockets return to action on Thursday, Oct. 30 with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against MAC West Division leader Eastern Michigan (18-4, 6-3 MAC) at Savage Hall. UT is just a half-game out of second place in the West Division behind CMU, Western Michigan (12-9, 5-5 MAC) and Ball State (10-12, 5-5 MAC).
