PITTSBURGH - Quarterback Brian Jones threw for 306 yards but it wasn't enough to lift Toledo past Pittsbugh on Saturday. The Panthers shot down the Rockets, 37-19, at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The Rockets struck first when wide receiver Carl Ford caught a Jones' pass, broke one tackle and avoided another to go 44 yards for the score, putting Toledo up, 6-0. However, Pitt countered with three unanswered touchdowns, the last coming with 13 seconds left in the first half, to take a 21-6 lead into halftime. Pittsburgh scored on its first possession of the second half, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Toledo had a good chances to score during Pitt's run, but a second-quarter drive stalled on Pitt's 24-yard line when a fourth-and-two pass play went incomplete, and a third quarter drive ended on Pitt's 15-yard line when Jones threw his first interception of the season.

Jones rallied the Rockets to two fourth quarter scores, a four-yard TD run by William Bratton and a four-yard TD catch by tight end Greg Grothous, but it wasn't enough.

Jones set career highs in attempts (45), completions (31) and yardage (306). His interception broke a string of 116 passes without an interception.

Toledo falls to 3-2 with the loss and is off next week before resuming action with a Homecoming game vs. Ball State on Oct. 12. Pitt, 19-0 now against the Mid-American Conference, moves to 4-1 on the season.
